Street Soccer USA Oakland After School Programs and Community Clubs offer after school programs and community clubs that use the Street Soccer USA Curriculum Powered Programs. Participants take part in Street Soccer Programs, Street Soccer Cups, and activities connected to Street Soccer Parks and the Street Soccer Cup and SSUSA Cup Series.
• Ages: 4–18 years old
Street Soccer USA was founded in 2009 and has the mission “To Fight Poverty and Strengthen Communities Through Soccer.” The organization provides programming to youth ages 4 and up, including homeless families, adults, and people in recovery, and focuses efforts on neighborhoods where 33% of residents live below the poverty line and where graduation rates are between 55–65%. It partners with schools to bring programs to kids at school and on the playground, and its Community Clubs take place in collaboration with local partners and organizations. Street Soccer USA is the Official and Exclusive U.S. Partner of the Homeless World Cup and the Street Child World Cup.
The Oakland program is led locally by Oakland Program Manager Emmanuel Sanchez and youth coaches Salma Flores, Jonathan Hernandez, Anthony Ahedo, Shea Bashan, Omar Hernandez Perez, and Jalen Sharp. The broader organization is overseen by a board of directors that includes chair Jim Finkelstein, treasurer Yoram Arieven, secretary Maggie Mack, and members Jeff Daems, Sky Gellaty, Dan Guill, Maria Cuomo Cole, Dr. Marianne Engle, Dan Helfrich, Tim Howard, Khaliah Ali, Steve Nash, Jeffrey Sachs, Charlie Stillitano, Jeff Rosenthal, Venanzio Ciampa, Cassandra Pye, Hal Washburn, Chris Hall, Dr. John Sianghio, Chris Litchford, Rob Cann, and Lawrence Cann.
Street Soccer USA is the winner of the ESPN Sport Humanitarian Award and the NYU Sport & Business Society’s Philanthropy Award. The organization is also recognized as the inventor of the Blue Card™.
