About

Brookville Center for Children's Services Preschool Programs include Early Childhood & Preschool Special Education, with integrated therapeutic services in classrooms and a curriculum that aligns with New York State Learning Standards. Classrooms have small student-to-staff ratios, and the curriculum emphasizes language, social, and cognitive development. Children also take part in activities such as getting active for Wear Red Day, developing skills at a Preschool Exchange, and building skills in a classroom flower shop.

• Ages: 3–5 years old

Brookville Center for Children's Services provides comprehensive special education services for children ages 3–5, with a focus on individual strengths and developmental needs. Over 93% of preschoolers in these programs transition successfully to their home school districts after graduation. The preschool programs are part of a larger organization that supports over 700 children and their families across Nassau and Suffolk Counties.

All services are delivered by highly trained clinical, educational, and support professionals. The preschool programs operate within Brookville Center for Children’s Services, which also offers Early Intervention Evaluations & Services, comprehensive assessments to determine eligibility for early intervention programs, School-Age Special Education for ages 5–22, Transition Services, a Home and Community-Based Services Program, a Children’s Residential Program, Recreation & Respite Services, and Continuing Professional Education.

Leadership connected to these preschool programs includes Denise Gaughan, Director of the Children’s Education Center; Sheri Dvorak, Program Supervisor at Post Avenue Preschool; Diane Condy, Director of Barbara C. Wilson Preschool; and Paula DeVita, Director of Round Hill Road Preschool. Programs are approved by the New York State Education Department and the Department of Health.

Brookville Center for Children’s Services began in 1967 with the opening of the Children’s Education Center and expanded in 2009 by integrating programs from AHRC Nassau and the North Shore–LIJ Health System, including programs from Schneider Children’s Hospital. For over 50 years, Brookville Center for Children’s Services has partnered with families.

The mission of Brookville Center for Children’s Services is to provide comprehensive services to children ages 0–22 with developmental delays and disabilities, with a strong emphasis on helping families understand their child’s strengths and areas of need. The environment is described as warm and inclusive, where children with developmental delays and disabilities are supported by caring professionals who value each child’s individuality.

Community involvement includes Steps Toward Tomorrow, a fundraising walk that brings children, families, and staff together from across the schools for a healthy, family-friendly event, with families raising funds through pages connected to their child’s school or program. Brookville Center for Children’s Services is part of the AHRC Nassau family and advocates to support policies that benefit children with developmental disabilities.

Parent feedback includes comments such as, “The past 2 years have been a wonderful experience and the beginning of a beautiful lifelong journey for my boys,” and, “This is the best school ever! So much love and supportive for our special needs children, will give them the courage to face difficulties in the long life ahead.”
