About
Canterbury Stables Riding Lessons offers riding lessons in dressage, hunter/jumper, and hunt seat riding. The program also provides boarding, training, and clinics for riders using the lesson horses and facilities.
• Ages: 4–18 years old
• Schedule: Lesson hours Tuesday–Sunday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
Canterbury Stables features a heated barn, a high-end radiant-heated horse barn, a heated tack room for boarders, and daily turnout in individual half-acre paddocks for boarded horses. The facility includes dedicated dressage and hunt seat arenas, a 100’ x 225’ dressage arena, a 100’ x 200’ hunter/jumper arena with dust-free footing and viewing areas, a 105’ x 235’ outdoor arena next to the barn, and private trails. The program describes a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere with a warm and welcoming professional staff and lesson horses, and individual lessons are tailored to rider goals from lead line to Grand Prix.
Canterbury’s story begins in 1999 when the Asher family purchased the property, and Canterbury Stables opened for lessons, boarding, and training in August 2002. The leadership team includes Nancy Asher, Jim Asher, and their daughter Kimberley, who is the head trainer, and Nancy Asher is listed as the contact for tours.
Head trainer Kimberley had her first riding lesson at age 4 and, as a junior rider, worked at Sag Pond Farm in Bridgehampton as a trainer and assistant barn manager. She volunteered in the local therapeutic riding program, competed on the IHSA hunt seat teams at Randolph Macon Women’s College and SUNY Morrisville, and was hired as an adjunct professor at Morrisville before graduating with a bachelor’s degree in equine studies. She competed on the A circuit in hunter, jumper, and equitation before moving to dressage, has earned her USDF gold medal, and teaches and competes in dressage through the Grand Prix level.
