Kids of Courage is a volunteer centric, non-profit organization dedicated to the support of sick children and their families, day and night. Since its inception in 2008, its mission and goal have been to empower children and young adults, most of whom would otherwise be restricted to hospitals or their homes, to have adventures and to see and experience a world of delights that would otherwise be unattainable. K.O.C. has assembled a team of highly skilled medical specialists, organizers, and leaders, and its physicians, nurses, and paramedics have logged over ten years of experience in arranging and executing very complex medical transportation. Over 50 courageous children embark on the four-day adaptive skiing adventure on Mount Snow in Vermont, and Big Brothers and Big Sisters become “best buddies” with ill children. Kids of Courage fights for the rights of physically and medically challenged individuals by meeting with senators in Washington, D.C., and helps theme parks and sports venues improve conditions for wheelchair bound guests. The Kids of Courage hotline is available to assist parents with referrals, second opinions, insurance questions, and other areas of support, and Couragers are invited to spend weekends in an atmosphere that showcases the bonds between children, caretakers, and hosts. Couragers have been VIP guests of teams including the Yankees, Rangers, Jets, and Heat, and David Blaine once flew with Kids of Courage on a private Boeing 737, entertaining the campers with five hours of non-stop personal magic. Kids of Courage logos and name are trademarked, and the information, images, and data on its website are copyrighted by Kids of Courage Inc. The organization exists thanks to community involvement, and communities around the country open their doors to Kids of Courage for special experiences that remove some of the mystery surrounding physical disabilities and demonstrate what it means to give of one’s self in order to help others.
