The Central Islip Public Library was founded in 1952 and opened its current building to the public on March 15, 1976. The library is chartered by the New York State Board of Regents and is overseen by a publicly elected five member Board of Trustees. Chair Yoga is led by instructor Kimberly Ciano, and Summer Splendor: Essential Oils is taught by instructor Tara Penske. The Central Islip Public Library continues to adapt and grow by integrating technology and new collections and fostering community engagement, with excellent patron service at the core of its mission.
The Central Islip Public Library serves nearly 40,000 residents within the Central Islip School District and offers spaces for local community groups to meet, along with workshops, literacy programs, and cultural activities. The Teen Advisory Club invites teens to share ideas and suggestions for how to turn the Teen Space into something special for the community and provides one hour of community service for attending. All programs are for Central Islip Library cardholders only, with limited spots available and waitlists when programs are full, and participants are asked to arrive on time because a place is not guaranteed if they are not present at the start of the program. Patrons in the Knit & Crochet Circle are invited to bring their own knitting or crochet projects.
