Since its inception in 1955, the Art League of Long Island’s mission has focused on enhancing Long Island’s cultural life by promoting the appreciation, practice, and enjoyment of the visual arts. The organization is a not-for-profit visual arts education center and is the oldest and largest nonprofit visual arts organization of its kind on Long Island, serving 155 towns and villages year-round. The mission includes broad-based visual arts education for artists of all ages and ability levels, with collaborative events and outreach programs that spread creativity among many segments of the population.

The Art League offers specialized programs such as Beyond the Classroom programs for local schools and Professional Development Programs for Art Educators that offer CTLE credits. Outreach efforts extend to communities including senior citizens, at-risk teens, traumatic brain injury victims, and those with developmental disabilities. The organization also offers LGBTQIA+ programming sponsored by a private donor and has a Youth PRIDE in the Arts Mentorship & Scholarship relaunch planned.

Leadership for the Art League includes a Board of Directors and staff. The Board of Directors consists of Andrea Mattera, CPA, Board President & Secretary; John C. Armentano, Esq., Treasurer; Donna Diamond Clemente; Kathleen Gurchie; Cheryl McBride; Maria Misko; and Janette Simms.
