Madison County Children's Camp (Camp Lookout) was founded in 1922 as a camp for children affected by tuberculosis and now seeks to meet the emotional and physical needs of Madison County youth. Camp Lookout welcomes boys and girls, ages 8–13, regardless of economic, social, or cultural background, who attend school in Madison County, and each summer it serves approximately six hundred children who would not otherwise be able to attend a summer camp experience. The dedicated, well-trained staff work with campers in a setting that includes 30 buildings, with 22 cabins for campers and staff members, a dining and/or recreation hall, an infirmary, and buildings for arts, crafts, nature, and athletics. School nurses, the Department of Social Services, other human service agencies, and churches help identify potential campers for the program. This institution is an equal opportunity provider.
