Camps 'R' Us was founded in 1993 by Joanne and Gary Turnier and has been family-owned and operated for 30 years. What began as Holy Family Summer Camp has grown into Camps 'R' Us, serving tens of thousands of children across Long Island since its founding. The program is now led by second-generation owners Cheryl and Jason Turnier, with Jason serving as Managing Director for over 15 years.
Cheryl is a former educator with a B.S. in Childhood Education and English Literature from LIU Post and has over two decades of experience working with children. Jason earned his MBA from LIU Post and helped shape Camps 'R' Us nearly two decades ago. The camp has a team of over 400 staff members and offers work-at-camp opportunities that emphasize leadership, communication, creativity, problem solving, collaboration, professionalism, and networking.
The mission of Camps 'R' Us is to create a community of campers, parents, and staff members each summer in a safe, nurturing environment that supports healthy learning by promoting physical, intellectual, emotional, and social growth. The mission also states a focus on building character, confidence, and leadership in young people while providing a high-quality, affordable camp experience on Long Island. The program describes its mission as providing a fun, safe, and affordable summer camp experience for Long Island families, and notes that it has been partnering with parents since 1993.
Camps 'R' Us offers programs for kids ages 3 and up, including Tiny Tots Nursery and Pre-K, Explorers for campers in grades K–4, and additional programs for campers in grades 5–8. The camp notes flexible scheduling, payment options, and discounts, and states that most families are eligible for at least one of the discounts.
