Hawthorne Valley Farm Camp
Hawthorne Valley Farm Camp, 327 County Rte 21C, Ghent, NY 12075
About
Hawthorne Valley Farm Camp offers day and overnight camp experiences where campers plant, harvest, and work in the garden on a working Biodynamic farm. Campers care for animals, gather eggs, and eat what they have grown, and they also help prepare the ingredients that feed the camp community. The program includes swimming in a pond, hiking in the woods, arts and crafts, archery, games, hiking, swimming, and camp fires.
• Ages: 8–16 years old
Since 1972, Hawthorne Valley Farm Camp has run camps that aim to inspire young people to grow into fully realized, dynamic human beings prepared to meet and serve the needs of their time. Meals at camp reflect the land, with much of the food coming directly from Hawthorne Valley’s own fields, and the mostly vegetarian menu celebrates the season’s bounty. Additional ingredients for meals are sourced from other ethical, sustainable, and organic farms, often in Columbia County, and campers help harvest produce, gather eggs, and prepare ingredients for these meals. The camp is screen-free and offers a chance for campers to slow down and reconnect with nature while living and breathing farm life. One camper shared that they learned how to connect with people and build relationships without using devices or outside media.
