Hawthorne Valley Farm Camp
Hawthorne Valley Farm Camp, 327 County Rte 21C, Ghent, NY 12075
About
Hawthorne Valley Farm Camp offers day and overnight camp sessions where campers take part in planting, harvesting, and caring for animals on a 900-acre working Biodynamic farm. Campers work in the garden, eat what they have grown, and often help harvest produce, gather eggs, and prepare ingredients that feed the camp community. The program also includes swimming in a pond, hiking in the woods, arts and crafts, archery, games, camp fires, and other hiking and swimming activities.
• Ages: 8–16 years old
Since 1972, the camps have aimed to inspire young people to grow into fully realized, dynamic human beings, prepared to meet and serve the needs of their time. The mission includes aligning with values of sustainability, connection to food systems, and real-world relevance. The menu is mostly vegetarian, and much of the food comes directly from Hawthorne Valley’s own fields, with additional ingredients sourced from other ethical, sustainable, and organic farms, often in Columbia County, so meals are a reflection of the land around the camp. The camp is screen-free and offers a chance to slow down and reconnect with nature while blending traditional camp activities with purposeful farm work. One camper shared that they learned how to connect with people and build relationships without using or having devices or any outside media around.
