About
Town of Islip Youth Bureau After-School & Youth Programs offers youth and family counseling, after-school programs, summer day and evening programs, and tutoring. The program includes community and parent education, violence and gang prevention programming, community service opportunities, employment readiness development, recreation and cultural programs, leadership and self-esteem building programs, a modern dance program with lessons and recital performances, open gym, PAR FORE golf mentoring, and teen nights.
• Ages: 6–18 years old
• Schedule: After-school programs run Monday–Friday with options such as 2:30–5:30 p.m. and 3:10–6:30 p.m., with additional weekday evening, Friday evening, and Saturday daytime and evening activities
• Price: Modern Dance Program: FREE (funded by NYS OPWDD)
Counseling services for youth and their families are provided in strict confidence by qualified counselors. The modern dance program is open to developmentally disabled participants from ages six through 21 years of age, and an application is required for this program. The modern dance program is funded by NYS OPWDD and offers creative expression through dance and movement, increased self-awareness, improved self-image, and positive social experience. The Town of Islip Youth Bureau and Youth Board provide services townwide for youth under the age of 21 and work with four not-for-profit agencies, each guided by community boards that determine program types based on community needs. The mission statement of the Town of Islip Youth Bureau and Youth Board is that “Kids Really Do Count!” Executive Director Tim Mare leads the Islip Youth Bureau.
