About
Town of Islip Youth Bureau After-School & Youth Programs offers youth and family counseling, after-school programs, summer day and evening programs, community and parent education, violence and gang prevention programming, community service opportunities, employment readiness development, recreation and cultural programs, leadership and self-esteem building programs, teen nights, and tutoring. The program also includes a Modern Dance Program with modern dance lessons and recital performances, as well as open gym sessions and PAR FORE Golf Mentoring.
• Schedule: After-school programs run Monday–Friday from 2:30–5:30 p.m., and from 3:10–6:30 p.m. at Central Islip Cordello Elementary School; Modern Dance Program classes are every Friday starting in September from 5:00–6:00 p.m. and 6:00–7:00 p.m.; open gym is offered Tuesday from 7:30–9:30 p.m. and Wednesday from 7:30–9:30 p.m.; PAR FORE Golf Mentoring meets Wednesday from 2:30–5:30 p.m.; Teen Nights take place Saturday from 6:00–10:00 p.m.; tutoring is offered Saturday from 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.
• Price: Modern Dance Program is FREE (funded by NYS OPWDD).
The Modern Dance Program is open to developmentally disabled participants from ages six through 21 and requires an application. The Town of Islip Youth Bureau and Youth Board work with four non-for-profit agencies to provide services townwide for youth under the age of 21. Counseling services for youth and their families are provided in strict confidence by qualified counselors. The Executive Director of the Islip Youth Bureau is Tim Mare. The Town of Islip Youth Bureau and Youth Board state that “Kids Really Do Count!” and that they provide services that youth and families can rely on. Each partnering agency has a community board made up of representatives from the communities they serve, and these community boards determine the types of programs that will be offered based on the needs of the community.
