About
Little Falls Youth and Family Center Youth Programs include activities such as swimming, soccer, basketball, youth sports, after-school youth activities, after school youth fitness programs, tutoring, and summer camps. The program also offers swimming lessons, a swim team, after-school fitness, and childcare as part of its youth-focused options.
• Ages: 5–17 years old
• Schedule: Gym hours are Monday and Wednesday 8 am–7 pm, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 8 am–5 pm, with the office opening at 8 am.
• Price: Youth Sports as low as $30/mo; memberships are described as extremely affordable and half the cost of other gyms, and SilverSneakers is completely free for eligible Medicare beneficiaries.
Since 1883, the organization’s stated mission has been to invest in a strong, thriving Little Falls community with specifically targeted programs for youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, and it describes itself as a cause-driven organization that promotes youth and family development, healthy lifestyles, and social responsibility. It states the belief that everyone has value and deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive. The Center is a 501C3 organization and is described as the longest-running health and fitness organization in the area, with 140 years of experience and a history of developing micro-local, community-based programs.
Certified Personal Trainers at the Center review goals and develop customized programs. The leadership team includes Executive Director Tony DeLuca, with membership handled by Beth and Aimee Burke in the Mohawk Valley, and named contacts for specific areas such as volunteer information, the Food Pantry, the Community Garden, Housing & Emergency Shelter, and birthday splash parties.
The Center’s sponsored programs include After School Youth Programs, a Childcare Program in partnership with Benton Hall, tutoring, after-school youth activities, the Summer Camps program, Head Start, and the Connect Through Music Series of free concerts. It also sponsors and supports community services such as a Food Bank, Food Pantry, Community Garden, emergency shelter, Housing & Emergency Shelter, and community outreach programs, with food pantry services run by volunteers from the local community and churches and vegetables from the Community Garden benefiting the Food Pantry.
Many youth programs are described as free or offered at substantially reduced fees, and financial assistance with scholarships is available for child care, youth sports, swimming lessons, and other youth activities. The Center offers a Free 3-Day Guest Pass, and active-duty members of the military can use the Center for free while on leave, with a 10% discount on all memberships for other military members. SilverSneakers program access is available for eligible Medicare beneficiaries.
One testimonial from Deborah Kaufman describes membership on The Center’s swim team as a turning point that gave her confidence and skills to compete fairly and honestly. Another testimonial from Oscar Stivala notes that he has been coming to The Center for more than fifty years and emphasizes exercising, eating right, and stimulating the mind. A testimonial from Brandon Mosher states that the Center is convenient for him, that memberships are extremely affordable and about half the cost of other gyms, and that, in his view, the Center offers more than those other facilities.
