• Ages: 5–17 years old

Founded in 1926 by Seminarians Gerald Lambert and Eugene Hudson, Camp Stella Maris has operated as a summer camp for 100 years. The current camp property was donated by Max Russer in 1927, and the camp was incorporated in 1960. A girls encampment was first led by Mary Hannick in 1941, and all sessions became co-ed in 1988. Camp Stella Maris has operated year-round since 1976, was given over to lay control by the Diocese in 1977, and a Board of Directors was formed in 1982. The LIT (Leader in Training) Program began in 1984, the Day Camp program began in 1991, and the ABLE (Adventure Based Learning Experience) program began in 1996. Peggy’s Café was constructed in 1999, major renovations including the Wegman House were completed in 2007, the Fellion building Health Center opened in 2019, and the St. Mary Star of the Sea Chapel was completed in 2022.

Camp Stella Maris follows the Catholic faith and is self-governing and self-supporting. Campers attend a kid-friendly Catholic Mass two times each week. The camp states that its spiritual program is non-conversional and that campers are not required to be Catholic.

Camp Stella Maris has an inclusivity statement welcoming all persons regardless of race, color, sex, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability (assuming the disability permits safe participation in the CSM program), faith or religion, cultural observance, national or ethnic origin, family status, appearance, body type/size, educational background, and any other category people use to define themselves or others. Its discrimination and bullying policy states that harassment and other behaviors that create a physically or emotionally unsafe environment will not be tolerated and that a camper may be dismissed from camp, without refund, on a first offense if the conduct is considered especially egregious. An equity statement notes that the camp prioritizes increased access for groups historically underrepresented at camp and focuses on ensuring everyone feels a sense of belonging.

Camp Stella Maris is accredited by the American Camping Association. It offers facility rentals for youth groups, retreats, corporate events and conferences, family celebrations, scout troops, and more.

One camper parent reports that a friend recommended the camp years ago and that their children have been going since, and this parent values time away from home, establishing new relationships, being in different environments, and pushing limits. Another camper parent notes that their daughter, who is an athlete with a busy schedule during the year, can “be free” and a kid for that summer week, and this parent appreciates the time she spends with friends and the chance to “unplug” from social media and cell phone use.
