Long Lake Camp for the Arts is described as “The Best Performing and Fine Arts Summer Camp on Earth” and as a one-of-a-kind sleepaway experience for creative children ages 8 to 11 and 12 to 16. It is a full sleepaway summer camp where campers stay overnight for the full session and is suitable for first-time campers. The camp follows a non-competitive philosophy while expecting commitment and dedication, and it is described as a small, supportive environment where everyone belongs, using a C.R.E.A.T.E. framework and focusing on helping like minded performers and creative spirits find each other. The camp accepts beginners, intermediate, and advanced artists and performers, and campers come from more than 40 different states in America and from 20 different countries.
The camp has a unique size of only 225 children and 145 staff and is staffed 24 hours, 7 days a week when camp is in session. It offers a unique Unit Leader program described as the only one of its kind at any summer camp. Long Lake Camp for the Arts has been family owned since 1969. It was founded by Maestro David and Jeannie Katz, and David’s son Marc became the owner-operator; since 1986 Marc and his wife Susan Katz own and run Long Lake jointly. The camp also has a sister camp for adventurous siblings.
Families have four coach pickup locations to choose from: Westchester, Queens, New Jersey, and Albany. Campers can also use Albany airport in upstate New York if they will fly to camp, and there is a private regional airport in Saranac Lake about 40 minutes away.
