Camp Jeanne d’Arc has been “Building Strong Girls through faith, endurance, courage, and confidence since 1922” and describes a historic “Camp Spirit” tradition dating back to founder Ruth “Colonel” McIntyre. Each week, one camper in each cabin who has shown notable “Camp Spirit” receives a “Weekly Fleur de Lis” necklace to keep and wear. The camp states that it values building strong girls through faith, endurance, courage, and confidence; empowering each girl to recognize her worth; wholesome play and connection with nature and others; an inclusive environment with respect for all; and fostering international relationships in a global sisterhood.

The mission of Camp Jeanne d’Arc is to help families build strong girls and to join hands with families worldwide so that every camper can find her voice, discover her talents, and realize her value. Service projects performed on Sundays include making a blanket for a local shelter and designing a special recognition for a counselor, with campers asked to look outward to make a difference in someone else’s life.

Counselors at Camp Jeanne d’Arc go through a series of interviews and are vetted through background checks and feedback from prior employers, and all employees are background checked. The camp states that it strives to fill all hired positions with strong female leaders, while a few young men are usually employed each summer to support female counselors in activities, and some men and young men work in the kitchen and on the maintenance crew; young men are never permitted in the cabins. The leadership team includes Director Sandy Abbott and Co-director Randy Abbott.

One parent testimonial from the Hartman Family (PA) describes their daughter’s first overnight camp experience in summer 2024 at Camp Jeanne d’Arc, noting that she experienced some homesickness at first, which her counselors and the Abbotts handled well, and that she then came to love the camp, tried new things, stepped out of her comfort zone, and made friends she hopes will be lifelong.
