• Ages: 6 weeks–10 years old
Kids of Miller Place has provided over a decade of education and care to children in its local Long Island community. Its mission centers on providing a safe, fun, and caring child-centered environment, based on the belief that children learn through experience and play. The program states that life skills such as problem solving, critical thinking, and cooperation can be learned through play, and that children are given a wide array of age-appropriate choices without judgment of success or failure. The mission further states that children are encouraged to make choices within limits, to be active participants in assuming responsibility for their learning, and to develop independence as a critical step in their development. The center is locally owned and operated and offers its childhood enrichment programs to the communities of Miller Place, Sound Beach, Mount Sinai, Rocky Point, Shoreham, Port Jefferson, Port Jefferson Station, Coram, and all of Suffolk County. Teachers receive ongoing training throughout the school year in childhood development, safety, and first aid, and all staff are background and reference checked. The leadership team includes Executive Director Amy Engelberg and On-Site Director Donata Oliva.
