Montgomery Nursery School, 21 Wallkill Ave, Montgomery, NY 12549
About
Montgomery Nursery School includes activities such as walks around the neighborhood, visits to the library, firehouse, police station, and post office, and time to explore nature. Children also learn safety rules as part of the program.
• Ages: 3–5 years old
• Schedule: Morning and afternoon class options with staggered start and dismissal times
Montgomery Nursery School was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1967 and received its charter from the State of New York in 1968. In 2002, the school expanded by adding “Annex” classrooms in the Presbyterian Church on Clinton Street for all three-year-old and Mommy and Me classes. All school business and administration is handled by a volunteer Board of Directors, whose members donate many hours of personal time for the betterment of the school. The school has been a collaborative agency for Valley Central School District for the Universal Pre-K program since the 2008–2009 school year, and school closings or delays follow Valley Central School District announcements. An annual Open House is held every February.
The program’s mission states that each child is viewed as a unique individual, with attention to social, emotional, intellectual, and physical needs, and that it offers a hands-on curriculum supported by a physical environment described as safe, comfortable, and stimulating. The staff are described as highly trained, experienced, and dedicated to the students. Montgomery Nursery School admits students of any race, color, religion, national and ethnic origin and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in the administration of its educational and admission policies.
For daily logistics, parents are asked to provide a healthy snack and a thermos of water each day, with no cupcakes, brownies, candy, fruit snacks, chips, milk, juice, soda, or iced tea. For birthdays, parents are asked to confirm special snacks with the teacher and not send cupcakes, brownies, fruit snacks, or goody bags; suggested birthday snacks include fresh fruit, cheese sticks, squeeze yogurt, ice cream cups, and ice pops. Parents are asked to inform the school immediately if their child has a food allergy. Families are asked to leave children at the front door rather than walking them into the school. In car pool situations, the parent should send a note to the teacher naming the responsible adult and the date, and that adult must present a photo ID at dismissal. Emergency dismissal procedures are available on the school voicemail at 457-7415.
The doors open at 9:00 am for the Four Year Old Classes and at 12:30 pm for the afternoon Four Year Old Class. The doors open at 9:15 am for the Three-Year-Old Class. Dismissal is at 11:30 am for the morning session of the Four Year Old Class, 11:45 am for the Three Year Old Class, and 3:00 pm for the afternoon sessions. Classrooms in the Presbyterian Church on Clinton Street are used as Annex classrooms for all three-year-old and Mommy and Me classes.
