Montgomery Nursery School includes activities such as walking around the neighborhood, visiting the library, firehouse, police station, and post office, and exploring nature. Children also learn safety rules as part of the program.
• Ages: 3–5 years old
• Schedule: Morning and afternoon class options with doors opening between 9:00–9:15am and dismissal between 11:30am–3:00pm
Montgomery Nursery School was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1967 and received its charter from the State of New York in 1968. In 2002, the school expanded by adding classrooms in the Presbyterian Church on Clinton Street for three-year-old and Mommy and Me classes. The school has been a collaborative agency for Valley Central School District for the Universal Pre-K program since the 2008–2009 school year. All school business and administration is handled by a volunteer Board of Directors, whose members donate personal time for the school.
The program’s mission states that each child is viewed as a unique individual, with attention to social, emotional, intellectual, and physical needs, and that it offers a hands-on curriculum supported by a physical environment described as safe, comfortable, and stimulating. The staff are described as highly trained, experienced, and dedicated to the students.
Montgomery Nursery School is incorporated as a non-profit organization and is chartered by the State of New York. It admits students of any race, color, religion, national and ethnic origin and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of educational and admission policies. The school holds an annual Open House every February. It follows Valley Central School District announcements on WGNY-FM 103.1 for school closings and delays, and late opening or early dismissal information is also available from Valley Central School District at 845-457-2400. Emergency dismissal information is available via voicemail at 457-7415.
Teacher communication includes daily emails in Universal Pre-K classes and weekly emails in three-year-old classes. Parents are asked to leave children at the front door rather than walk them into the school. Parents provide a healthy snack and a thermos of water each day, with restrictions on cupcakes, brownies, candy, fruit snacks, chips, and on drinks other than water. For birthdays, parents may send a special snack after confirming with the teacher, with suggested options such as fresh fruit, cheese sticks, squeeze yogurt, ice cream cups, or ice pops, and no goody bags are allowed. Parents are asked to notify the school immediately if their child has a food allergy and to advise the teacher if the child will be absent for several sessions due to illness or vacation. For car pools, the parent sends a note naming the responsible adult and date, and that adult must present a photo ID.
