Owner Kathryn Gawrych leads Smithtown Ninja Academy and holds a Master’s Degree in Accounting and Taxation from the University of Hartford. The mission statement of Smithtown Ninja Academy is “Together, We Will Overcome All Obstacles,” and it states that discipline, focus, and behavioral development are emphasized to foster kids’ growth and self-improvement, with coordination and confidence increasing with skill level. For adults, the mission statement describes ninja warrior training as a thrilling physical challenge at all skill levels, a mental challenge, and an innovative approach to setting, achieving, and surpassing personal goals beyond what is done at a gym.
Smithtown Ninja Academy is described as having a cavernous, impressive gym with a variety of apparatuses, including the only 18-foot wall on the island, and multiple testimonials describe the facility as very clean, fresh, brand new, and organized. According to testimonials, classes are led by knowledgeable instructors and coaches who are described as patient, enthusiastic, professional, encouraging, and attentive, with staff who are upbeat and accommodating and who pay attention to each child’s skill level. Many testimonials describe kids having a great time in classes, summer programs, and birthday parties, with several parents noting that their children did not want to leave and that they plan to return for additional classes or parties.
Unique features noted include challenging and unique obstacles that are like those on the TV show American Ninja Warrior, with most of the staff and many of the students having been Ninja Warrior competitors, and many young students having competed on American Ninja Warrior Junior. Smithtown Ninja Academy has been featured on Newsday, News12 Road Trip Close to Home – Smithtown Ninja Academy, News12 coverage of Coach Ace and Coach Nick going on American Ninja Warrior Season 17, and NewsdayTV – Fitness Fix – Smithtown Ninja Academy. Multiple testimonials from parents and grandparents describe the program as great for birthday parties, fun for kids of different ages, and a place where children build coordination, physical skills, confidence, and a sense of accomplishment, and some adults report enjoying the classes enough to continue long term.
