Caedmon Discovery Camp offers hands-on learning through activities such as art, music, movement, theater games, science, sports and games, and tennis. Campers take age-appropriate trips, go swimming, enjoy courtyard play and water play, and take part in special events. All field trips take place Monday through Thursday, and Fridays are dedicated to an all-camp, on-site specials event.
• Ages: 2.8–12 years old

When campers are not on trips, they participate in activities inside Caedmon’s four-story school building, including use of an outdoor courtyard. Camp groups are organized by age, including Staten Island Frogs (ages 2.8–3, with full-day and half-day options), Brooklyn Beavers (age 4, full-day), Manhattan Monkeys (age 5, full-day), Bronx Bees (ages 6–7, divided into Junior Bees at age 6 and Senior Bees at age 7, with two trips per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays), and Queens Penguins (ages 8–12, divided into Junior Penguins at ages 8–9 and Senior Penguins at ages 10–12, with three trips per week and one special trip to a water park). The three youngest camp groups have water play 2–3 times per week.
Campers visit New York City museums, parks, and cultural institutions, including the Empire State Building, Coney Island Aquarium, Bronx Zoo, and New York Hall of Science in Queens. Enriching activities are led by skilled Caedmon teachers and experienced specialist instructors, and highly skilled counselors and experienced specialists guide campers through the programs. The Caedmon School, which runs the camp, was founded in 1962 as the first Montessori school in New York City. The Head of School is Dr. Wendy A. Falchuk. The school’s mission states that it honors the individual and fosters the natural curiosity of each child as a foundation of academic achievement, and that it nurtures empathy in students to value perspectives other than their own.
