About

The John McEnroe Tennis Academy (JMTA) offers tennis training that includes on-court tennis sessions along with strength, agility, and mental toughness training. The program also includes injury prevention protocols and training, as well as guidance on proper nutrition and hydration for players.

Launched in 2010, JMTA was conceived and developed by John McEnroe in partnership with SPORTIME Clubs. JMTA is described as SPORTIME’s premiere tennis training experience and as the Tri-state area’s #1 program for developing nationally and internationally competitive juniors. The academy has produced hundreds of players who have won titles at the sectional, national, intercollegiate, and international levels, and thousands of players who have fallen in love with the sport of tennis. JMTA is offered at five locations, with sites in NYC, Long Island, and Westchester.

JMTA is directed by John McEnroe as Founder and Director, along with Executive Director Patrick McEnroe, SPORTIME Executive Director of Tennis and junior development expert Mike Barrell, and Regional Manager and JMTA NYC Director Mark Bowtell, supported by a team of tennis and athletic development coaches. The academy features an international staff of dedicated and enthusiastic coaches with a diversity of experience. Its mission states that it focuses on tennis mastery through holistic development and discovery-based learning, with positive and motivational coaching that focuses on developing the technical and tactical abilities of players while supporting them in their academic and off-court pursuits.

The Johnny Mac Tennis Project (JMTP), connected to this program, serves more than 5,000 New York kids every year and focuses on transforming young lives by removing economic, racial, and social barriers to success through tennis.
