About
FunFit Kids School’s Out Camp offers games, creativity activities, and a multi-sports program that includes walking, running, dodging, hopping, skipping, landing, balance, rotation, throwing and catching, striking with hands and feet, and using equipment. Children take part in sports such as soccer, basketball, baseball/t-ball, tennis, golf, volleyball, floor hockey, lacrosse, and FunFitness, which combines track and field and gymnastics skills. The program also includes a nutrition and healthy lifestyle segment and language through sports.
• Ages: 3–9 years old
• Schedule: June 15 – September 4
FunFit Kids School’s Out Camp takes place in a facility that is described as spacious and filled with state of the art equipment that is safe and custom-tailored for the programs. All FunFit coaches are required to have a background in coaching, kinesiology or childhood development, must be thoroughly screened with police screening for working with children, and must be First Aid and CPR certified. Coaches are monitored and supervised on a regular basis and rehearsed in the FunFit curriculum, methodology, philosophy, protocols and safety measures, and all FunFit classes have a 6 to 1 ratio or less.
Danny and Robyn created FunFit with the help of professionals in the fields of kinesiology, nutrition and early child development. Before starting this program, Danny led experiential learning and after-school programs for many New York City based community centers and schools for over 6 years. FunFit is described as a fun and interactive multi-sports program for ages 1–9 that focuses on progressive learning through the 3 R’s: Refine, Rehearse and Repeat, with an emphasis on individual needs and interests through play, drills and games. The program teaches fundamentals of gross motor function, sport skills, healthy living, sportsmanship and teamwork, and states that children gain confidence and self-esteem and are progressively challenged as the program evolves. FunFit’s philosophy is that children develop core motor-function fundamentals such as coordination, flexibility, balance, stamina, strength, speed, agility and accuracy in targeted activities and then apply these skills to specific sports, with a focus on repetition and development of these core skills. The program promotes the idea that athletics, when taught correctly, can support a child’s development in many ways, including confidence building and social interaction, and encourages kids to build physical activity into their daily routine.
One parent testimonial notes that both of her children were in Danny’s class through a JCC initiative called the Jewish Journey Project, where the class focused on learning Hebrew through active play, and that her children loved it, learned basic words they still use, and that it put them on the path of an active life.
