iD Tech was founded in 1999 as one of the first tech camps for kids and teens, starting with 280 students per year and growing to 50,000 students per year around the world. The organization describes itself as the nation’s original and most trusted youth STEM educator for kids and teens, and as the world’s largest and most trusted tech program, with a 25-year legacy in STEM education. Each iD Tech experience is led by instructors from universities such as Stanford, NYU, and Caltech, along with industry professionals like a game design specialist from EA, hired through selective practices and intensive hybrid training.

The company’s mission is to create life-changing tech experiences that embolden students to shape the future, and its long-term learning system focuses on skills for in-demand STEM careers at a time when there are millions of unfilled STEM jobs in the US. Over 50,000 girls have graduated from its camps and academies. iD Tech states that every child deserves access to quality tech education regardless of socioeconomic background, and it plans to offer more scholarships than ever before to students from underserved communities to help bridge the digital divide.

iD Tech was founded by Kathryn and Alexa Ingram-Cauchi, with Pete Ingram-Cauchi as the first CEO, and as of 2024 is led by CEO Tana Barton Haas, who is also a parent of two iD Tech campers. The organization notes that it began as a Silicon Valley startup working seven days a week in a studio above a garage and has since grown into an industry leader with a remote, work-from-home culture across departments such as Education, Client Services, Marketing, Engineering, Risk Management, Payroll, and Logistics.
