About
Fiver includes time at Camp Fiver where participants take part in art, weaving, Horsebarn activities, outdoor skills, and aquatics. The program includes a summer session at Camp Fiver as part of a broader, year-round model that also features out-of-school programs during the school year and educational workshops and retreats for parents and guardians. The organization annually serves nearly 500 youth and 150+ alumni through this comprehensive 12-month program model, all at no cost to participants.
• Ages: 8–18 years old
• Schedule: Four 12-day sessions throughout the summer, with counselors living at Camp Fiver for all four sessions
• Price: A two-week summer experience free of charge; all at no cost
Fiver was founded in 1998 by Tom Tucker, with Tom and Heather Tucker on the land in 1998, and by 2000 over $3 million was raised to transform the Keefe Family Farm into Camp Fiver. Over the last 25 years, Fiver has evolved into an award-winning youth development organization that has served more than 1,700 youth and marks “Our Journey: 25 Years of Empowerment,” with campers carrying on the Camp Fiver spirit. The program’s mission is to provide experiences that challenge and relationships that nurture so youth from systematically under-resourced communities in New York can create their own positive futures, through a one-of-a-kind ten-year commitment that focuses on character-building, teamwork, and decision-making. Fiver provides holistic support for entire families, empowering youth to transform themselves and their communities, and maintains a culture of acceptance and affirmation with an immersive culture that includes a common language, norms, artifacts, and practices. Fiver was named after a rabbit in Richard Adams’ Watership Down who, despite not being the strongest, courageously led his community to safety.
