About
Port Jervis Youth Community Center offers activities such as dance, yoga, martial arts, science, crafts, theater, game playing, socializing, club meetings, and outdoor play. The program includes after-school activities and summer programming, with both organized instructional programs for physical, academic, and arts activities and time for unstructured activities. The Youth Community Center is intended primarily for use by children ages 11 to 18 years, and in some cases children as young as six years old use the center when special programs are in place to accommodate them.

It is identified as a safe location for youth to go after school and supports opportunities for youth to develop their physical, social, emotional, and cognitive abilities and to experience achievement, leadership, enjoyment, friendship, and recognition.
The Port Jervis Recreation Department’s stated function is to provide the community with recreational and healthy activities for all age groups. The Director of Recreation advises the Recreation Commission, Common Council, and Mayor on all activities that are taking place and on future recreational programs, and works closely with other city departments, the Port Jervis School District, and county agencies in an effort to improve the quality of life for the community. Additional funding for these efforts is provided by the Office of Children and Family Services and the Orange County Youth Bureau. The City of Port Jervis Police Department has been awarded a Certificate of Accreditation from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services Law Enforcement Agency Accreditation Council.
