Configuration Dance Theatre & School of Ballet was established in 2000 as Configuration Dance Theatre. The organization is led by Artistic Director and Founder Joseph Cipolla and Managing Director and Co-Founder Kolleen Fischer. Its mission states that it is a professional dance studio and ballet school and a cultural center whose goal is to enhance community life by offering students the chance to engage in the experience of dance, with comprehensive educational opportunities for both aspiring professional and recreational dance students.
Configuration Dance Theatre has been recognized for performing in a variety of theaters and venues locally and across the country. The program limits the number of students in classes and maintains smaller student-to-teacher ratios, with faculty who have expertise in specific styles and levels of dance within studio programs. Configuration is known for its apprentice program, which allows younger artists an opportunity to work with established dancers and choreographers. It is a member of the Independent Health Extras Wellness program, which can be used toward tuition or class cards, and states that performance and costume fees are affordable for families and that students or parents are never required to fundraise for studio events. Guest artists Misty Copeland and Raul Peinado have performed with Configuration Dance Theatre at the Albright Knox Art Gallery. One testimonial states, “Since dancing at Configuration, I have developed even more as a dancer. The instruction is outstanding.”
