Albany County 4-H Youth Development includes activities such as 4-H Clubs, the 4-H Dog Program, the 4-H Horse Program, 4-H Shooting Sports, 4-H Teens, and the 4-H Vet Science Program. The program also offers Ag-in-the-Classroom, participation connected with The Altamont Fair, Urban 4-H, and 4-H Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) projects. 4-H is open to all youth aged 5–18 and is a volunteer-driven organization that reaches youth through a variety of interactive programs.

Albany County 4-H Youth Development is part of Cornell Cooperative Extension Albany County, which has responded to the needs of local residents since 1916. The association is part of the national cooperative extension system, an educational partnership between County, State, and Federal governments, where extension staff and trained volunteers deliver education programs, conduct applied research, and encourage community collaborations. The mission of Cornell Cooperative Extension 4-H Youth Development is to unleash the power of youth and adults through diverse opportunities that meet community needs, and the broader mission of Cooperative Extension is to enable people to improve their lives and communities through partnerships that put experience and research knowledge to work. Cornell Cooperative Extension puts knowledge to work in pursuit of economic vitality, ecological sustainability, and social well-being by bringing local experience and research-based solutions together for New York State families and communities. Cornell Cooperative Extension Albany County is a subordinate governmental agency with an educational mission that operates under a form of organization and administration approved by Cornell University as agent for the State of New York, and it is tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The leadership team includes Rachel Sakadolsky, 4-H Youth Educator III, and Lisa Godlewski, Association Executive Director.
