About
The Country School offers activities in science, art, music, movement, language arts, math concepts, mindfulness, Spanish, yoga, creative movement, ballet, gymnastics, sports, exercise, and crafts. The facility is described as a place for children to explore, learn, create, and play inside and out. The program includes exceptional summer camp options for children ages 18 months–9 years and school-year programs for children from Toddler to Pre-K that use play-based learning and structured activities through monthly themes.
• Ages: 18 months–9 years old
Founded by Deena Zenger in 1990, The Country School has offered programs for young children for many years. The program follows an age-appropriate curriculum and a “whole child” curriculum that integrates wellness, academics, creative arts, and life-building skills. The environment is described as warm and nurturing, with intentional planning and thoughtfully designed learning experiences that encourage play, active participation, and sensory engagement. Children have ample time to learn through play with small and large group social activities, direct class instruction, and one-on-one support, and small class sizes allow for individual guidance.
Highly qualified staff focus on meeting individual campers’ needs, nurturing new friendships, and implementing a strong sense of self and community. Programs in science, mindfulness, Spanish, music, yoga, creative movement, ballet, gymnastics, and sports are taught by qualified and certified professionals, and each class is led by an experienced teacher and a teaching assistant. The program promotes independence, good decision-making skills, a positive sense of self, mindful awareness, and a strong mind-body connection.
The Country School’s mission is to provide an innovative and preeminent education for children, with an objective to cultivate confident, ethical, mindful, life-long learners that have the power to change the world. One parent, Olivia Berger, states that the teachers and staff are caring and attentive and that her daughter has attended both preschool and summer camp there. Another parent, Jeanette Payne, notes that the staff are highly trained and warm and that her children have been in the programs for over five years.
