Camp Echo Lake describes its mission as being built upon a passionate dedication to human development and as a loving and supportive camp community that looks for and cultivates the best in every camper and staff member. Since 1946, the Stein family has been providing summer camp experiences connected to this mission. The program journey includes Junior Camp for campers entering 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade; Inter Camp for campers entering 6th and 7th grade; Senior Camp for campers entering 8th, 9th, and 10th grade; 4N4 for campers entering 10th grade, described as “Best of all worlds! Four weeks out west and three weeks in camp.”; and L.I.T for campers entering 11th grade, described as “The ultimate leadership experience.”
Camp parents describe Camp Echo Lake as cultivating a feeling of “home,” with care going into decisions and concern for each child, and one parent calls it “a magical place.” Parents report that Echo Lake has helped their children grow in character and experience joy in ways their family could not accomplish at home. One parent states that CEL offers a balance of strong athletics, relationship building, and human development with a focus on compassion, and that these values support personal development, growth, and independence. Another parent notes that a great deal of time and effort is put into understanding and respecting the whole child, and says Echo Lake has shaped their child into a wonderful teen. Parents also describe CEL as an incredibly thoughtful and developmentally appropriate program that is expertly executed, run by caring and expert directors and staff, and say the camp will know and love each child. Other parents say they appreciate the values taught at camp, including independence, learning how to relate to others, self-reliance, interpersonal interaction, and trying new things. One parent highlights CEL’s strong emphasis on inclusive groups where everyone is encouraged to be themselves and says they feel safe sending their kids for the summer knowing they are well looked after and having fun.
