About

Watervliet Civic Center Youth Programs include licensed and regulated child care for children in grades Pre-Kindergarten to 5th grade. The Civic Center also offers a summer day camp and a Youth Recreation Program for grades 4–12 that operates seasonally during the evening hours. Adults and young adults use the Civic Center’s cardio and weight rooms during designated hours.

• Ages: 4–18 years old
• Schedule: Winter Recess runs from Dec. 22, 2025 to Jan. 2, 2026, with the Civic Center open most days at its usual times and closed on Dec. 24, Dec. 25, Dec. 31, and Jan. 1; youth must be at least 10 years old to attend the 6:00–9:00 PM program Monday through Thursday evenings.

The Civic Center building was constructed as a high school in 1911 and was later converted to a youth center that opened in 1946 for both boys and girls in Watervliet. It has been in operation for over 75 years, and more than 800 youth, young adults, and adults take part in its programs and activities each year. William Sheehy serves as the Executive Director. The Watervliet Rotary Club and other civic-minded citizens originally petitioned the city to turn the building over for renovation, and the Watervliet Civic Center now participates in the State Employees Federated Appeal (SEFA #50-00410), the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC #41327), and a Community Campaign (#2900), and also accepts direct donations to “The Civ,” including donations designated for specific programs, general operations, or in memory of a loved one. The Civic Center also runs a Mega Raffle with a limited number of tickets sold.
