About
Westbury Arts Youth & Family Arts Programs includes kid-focused arts and crafts, bilingual story time, a painting workshop, cupcake decorating, games, and a dance party featuring live music. The program takes place at the Westbury Arts building and uses the gallery space, with activities also connected to a 53-foot-long hand painted outdoor mural across the street that covers the entire side wall of Jin’s Apple Farm.
• Schedule: Gallery hours on Thursdays from 12pm to 4pm, Fridays from 2pm to 6pm, and Saturdays from 10am to 2pm
Westbury Arts is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that delivers community. In 2013, Mayor Peter Cavallaro asked residents for their assistance in creating an arts council for the Westbury community and envisioned Westbury Arts as the cultural centerpiece of the Village and as the premier destination for arts and culture on Long Island. Grand opening weekend festivities for the building began with an open house on Saturday, June 12th, 2021.
The Westbury Arts logo mark takes its inspiration from the “Friendship Star” quilt pattern, and friendship quilts were a common craft made by Westbury’s first Quaker settlers. The four quadrants that make up the logo give a subtle nod to Westbury’s motto “Community For All Seasons,” and, resembling a compass, the logo represents direction and marks Westbury as an arts destination of Long Island.
Grand opening weekend events included an opportunity to meet renowned artist Francisco Ciccio Poblet, the last living apprentice of Salvador Dalí, whose works were exhibited in the gallery from June 15th through 27th amid the unveiling of the 53-foot-long hand painted outdoor mural. Grand opening events also featured the theatrical performance of an original comedy in one act by Meagan J. Meehan titled “The Values of Gold, Silver & Bronze,” followed by musical performances by Carle Place High School students Devin Eichel and Antonio Urrutia. The weekend concluded with a “Family Fun Day” that offered kid-focused arts and crafts, bilingual story time, a painting workshop, cupcake decorating, games, and a dance party featuring live music with guest Julian Soler from Soleart Corp.
The Westbury Arts mural project was made possible, in part, with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by the Huntington Arts Council. Westbury Arts is dedicated to delivering vibrant arts and cultural programs that connect, educate, and inspire the community and, since opening day, has continued to celebrate diversity and collaboration through monthly art exhibitions and workshops, discussion groups, artist meet ups, concerts, member showcases, educational and social fundraising galas, poetry, spoken word, and theatrical performances. Westbury Arts has become a Long Island arts destination for all seasons.
