Beyond Camp is an award-winning summer camp for children entering grades K-9 with special learning needs. It is structured to help prevent summer learning loss and to promote social skills and academics through community-based experiences. Summer programming is described as designed exclusively for each child, and spots are limited. Payments can be made in two installments, and many families now receive approximately $1,000 from their local County Board of Developmental Disabilities to help cover camp costs, for eligible students.

Staff includes highly experienced intervention specialists, a speech/language pathologist, and a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. All Julie Billiart (JB) teachers are certified intervention specialists, and onsite Board Certified Behavior Analysts, speech therapists, occupational therapists, art therapists, and music therapists supplement academics with therapeutic support. The program notes a 6:1 student to teacher ratio for primary grades and an 8:1 student to teacher ratio for grades 3-8. Beyond Camp (Kindergarten) and Beyond Camp (Grades 1-9) have different schedules and costs, and Kindergarten Beyond Camp registration will not open until April. Non-JB students’ enrollment will require a review of their IEP/ETR, and limited spots will be available.

Beyond Camp’s mission is to nurture and empower students with special learning needs. Weekly field trips include, but are not limited to, the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, Great Lake Science Center, Sky Zone, and the Greater Cleveland Aquarium. Beyond Camp is part of a network of four private, coeducational day schools serving students in grades K-8 with learning differences. Julie Billiart Schools’ award-winning Beyond Camp was prominently featured in the February 2021 issue of Cleveland Magazine, and the schools have been recognized as a NASET School of Excellence nine years in a row.

Parent testimonials describe the school and camp as having resources specialized to the individual learning of each child and refer to staff as patient and willing to take extra time with families. One parent states that Julie Billiart Schools helped their child become a better version of himself and that teachers and therapists understand how to reach children who learn differently. Another parent notes that their daughter thrived in small classes, received necessary therapies, and developed the self-confidence to ask for help when needed. Multiple parents report that their children look forward to going to JB every day and that the experience gave their family hope after a learning disability diagnosis.
