About
Camp Stambaugh offers Cub Scout Day Camp, adventure camps, and training programs. The camp uses tent camping areas, primitive campsites, hammock camping areas, and buildings that can be rented, including rustic cabins and other facility types. When participants arrive, they coordinate with the Campmaster on duty for a specific camping location, and campsites are not split between units except in the Hammock Camping area.
Camp Stambaugh opened in July 1919 and celebrated 100 years of service to Scouts in 2019. It is the second oldest continuously operating Scout camp in Ohio and is tied for the ninth oldest Scout camp in the United States. The camp includes a four-acre lake created by damming Indian Creek in 1923, a bridge over Indian Creek built in 1925, the K.L. Brown Pavilion erected in 1947 using the foundation of Henry Stambaugh’s barn, a swimming pool funded by the Rotary Club of Youngstown in 1963, a Hammock Camping area, primitive tent campsites, and the Stambaugh Scout Museum. Camp Stambaugh is part of the Great Trail Council with the consolidation of the former Greater Western Reserve Council.
The leadership team includes Nathan Watson, Director of Support Services / Senior Vice President; Jess Weaver, Outdoor Adventures Director; Stewart Smith, Activities Director; Al Fazenbaker, Summer Camp Director; Justin Bolden, Camp Ranger; and Jonah Brown, Maintenance Technician. Community involvement has included a land donation of 28.5 acres from the Marino family in 1946 and funding for the swimming pool from the Rotary Club of Youngstown in 1963.
