Greenacres Foundation began when Louis and Louise Nippert purchased land known as Greenacres Farm from the Green family in 1949, later expanding it to nearly 600 acres and operating it as a mid-twentieth century gentleman’s farm. In 1988, they started Greenacres Foundation, which now offers school field trips and summer camps, fresh produce from a farm store, and special public events such as Mindfulness Yoga in the Gardens, Summer Farm to Table Dinner, Music Under the Stars, Summer Camp For Adults, Family Discovery Time: Pasture to Product, Invasive Plant ID Hike, Giving with Grace Fundraiser, and Greenacres Artist Weekend. The foundation reports serving over 30,000 students a year and provides free field trips to an increasing number of schools and students.

The mission of Greenacres Foundation includes preserving woodland and farmland, maintaining the traditional environment and historical significance of Indian Hill, and encouraging conservation and appreciation of nature by providing the public, particularly children, chances to study plant and animal life in natural settings. The mission also includes encouraging appreciation of music and culture by providing facilities and an atmosphere for artists to display their talents for all age groups. Greenacres states that it offers experiences such as exploring preserved forests and creeks, capturing beauty in music and artwork, and discovering aspects of farming and gardening, and it identifies its values as Giving, Grace, Green, Good Neighbor Policy, and Generative.

Greenacres Artist Weekend is described as an annual three-day event where artists can create, collaborate, and generate new ideas at the Greenacres Arts Center. The current Board of Trustees includes Carter Randolph, Ph.D.; Martin Cooper; Lawrence Kyte, Jr.; Brad Lindner; Ginger Warner; Meredith Leslie; Beth Hellman; and Louie Randolph, and the original founding members were the late Louis Nippert, the late Louise Dieterle Nippert, and the late Marie Eberhard.
