About

Sheldon Calvary Camp offers a traditional overnight summer camp where campers take part in swimming, arts and crafts, tennis, athletics, kayaking, environmental education, archery, team building, photography, sailing, playing sports, exploring the outdoors, games, and songs. Campers live in cabins of 8 or 9 children with two counselors and share meals together as they move between activities across the camp’s lakeside campus. In the final two weeks of the summer, the program shifts to Family Camp sessions where families stay in simple, comfortable cabins near shared bathhouses.

• Ages: 8–18 years old
• Schedule: Most children come for one week, with options to attend for two or more weeks; the final two weeks of the summer are two Family Camp sessions

Sheldon Calvary Camp is a camping ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh and is described as an outdoor recreation camp and a place of refuge, connection, and rejuvenation on the Lake Erie shore. The camp was founded in 1936 as Harry E. Sheldon Calvary Camp, after May Sheldon donated the land in memory of her late husband, Harry E. Sheldon, and it has spent 90 years bringing generations together. It began as a camp for choir boys, later operated as separate overnight camps for boys and girls, and has since evolved into a unified, coeducational overnight camp that welcomes campers and staff of all denominations and faiths.

Seasonal staff members, ages 17 and older, serve as camp counselors, activity leaders, coordinators, and directors, and the overwhelming majority of staff members are former Calvary campers. The staff is led by a team of Directors who are professional adults with a long history with Calvary Camp as campers, parents of campers, summer staff, and full-time staff. Leadership contacts include an Executive Director, a Registrar, and a Board. Sheldon Calvary Camp is accredited by the American Camp Association, meeting over 260 standards for safety, staff training, and risk management, and this accreditation is described as a distinction held by about 25% of camps nationwide. The camp is a dues-paying member of Episcopal Camps and Conference Centers (ECCC), an organization that advocates for and promotes camps, summer programs, retreat centers, and conference centers of the Episcopal Church in the United States. The mission of Sheldon Calvary Camp is to offer children, young adults, and families an environment of spiritual growth, encourage reflection, foster deep relationships, model the acceptance of individual differences, value all of God’s creation, and help campers integrate faith into everyday life.
