Wakatomika Christian Service Camp was incorporated in 1945 and is one of the longest continually existing service camps in the state of Ohio. In 2004, land was purchased and camp was held for the first time on the camp’s own property just outside of Danville, Ohio. The camp functions as an extension of local congregations of Churches of Christ and Christian Churches and provides facilities for member congregations to fellowship and worship. The primary stated purpose of the camp is to help train and encourage youth in the hope of Jesus Christ as Savior, as an extension of these local congregations. The camp also provides training for young men interested in entering the ministry.
The camp’s goals include removing all influence of the world during the camp program, providing a safe loving atmosphere imitating Jesus Christ, teaching children about the life and hope that comes through Jesus Christ, teaching and encouraging children to become servants of Jesus Christ, providing facilities for member congregations to fellowship and worship, and providing memories of love, mercy, and kindness to all children who attend camp. All deans, staff members, and volunteers must be in agreement with the statement of belief approved by the camp board on March 16, 2021, and an affirmation of New Testament Christianity is required for all deans, staff members, and volunteers.
The camp’s leadership includes board officers Dean Jackson (President), Andrew Kissell (Secretary), and Jason Hankinson (Treasurer). Board members are listed as Jim Anderson, Jack Atkinson, Ric Bailey, Ricky Campbell, Matt Cochran, Jason Cole, Dirk Cunningham, Dale Hanshaw, Brad Keller, Rick Lumbatis, Kent Margraff, Steve Muck, Tim Postle, Joe Thomas, and Mike Tucker.
