About
Lorain County Metro Parks Programs are offered by the Lorain County Metropolitan Park District, which has expanded its Naturalist Department programs from 386 in 1986 to over 1,600. Programs are often offered in schools, nursing homes, community centers, and related locations, and all program registrations and facility reservations require a customer account.
• Schedule: Programs are offered in multiple community locations; all registrations and facility reservations require a customer account.
The Lorain County Metropolitan Park District was created in 1957 by the Lorain County Probate Court under Ohio's Park District Law of 1917 and has grown to over 9,000 acres across 28 reservations with over 110 miles of trails. Its mission is to acquire land to promote and demonstrate the wise use of natural resources, preserve and create a diversity of ecosystems, and provide educational and recreational opportunities that are compatible with conservation of these resources. The Park District is supported by a 1.6-mill levy property tax, earned income, and a variety of sponsors and gifts, and capital improvements are financed by keeping operating costs below annual revenues and using grants, donations, and trusts. Through contributions from individuals, groups, corporations, and foundations, the Park District provides services and facilities beyond the limitations of its tax levy.
