The owners are Stephen Csulik and Melissa McShane, and they are described as hands-on owners. The program includes “Camp Scribes,” a unique summer camp program for school-age children from 6–12 years, “Club Scribes,” which offers a structured environment for children in full day kindergarten through 6th grade, and a “J.C.” program exclusively designed for young teens ages 12–14 years.
The building has 15 classrooms, an indoor gymnasium, and a cafeteria, along with over 4 acres of outdoor play areas, two in-ground swimming pools, a 9-hole putt-putt course, and three pavilions. The program notes employee longevity, with many staff having been there for years and some having attended as children.
The professional staff is highly experienced and degreed and/or certified in Early Childhood Education, as well as CPR, First Aid, Communicable Disease Management & Prevention, and Child Abuse Recognition & Reporting. Scribes staff must also complete annual professional development training. The program states involvement with the American Red Cross in connection with field trips and onsite events.
The mission of Scribes & Scribblers is to create a nurturing, homelike environment with a structured yet flexible research-based curriculum that includes positive and hands-on individual and group experiences and respects the developmental needs of each age group served. The program states a commitment to meeting the individual needs of every child enrolled to the best of its ability, views family as the center of a child’s social, emotional, and academic foundation, and partners with each family to support their goals and prepare their children for the next step of their education. The program describes itself as a family and states, “Once a part of the Scribes Family, ALWAYS a part of the Scribes Family!”
