Sidney-Shelby County YMCA Youth Programs include activities such as walking the track, visiting the Wellness Center, and taking part in HydroFit and other group exercise classes. Children and families can join swim lessons for all ages, open lap swimming, and family pool time, as well as use the Youth Center climbing wall, attend special events, and join supervised sports activities like basketball, soccer, and pickleball.
• Schedule: Youth Center hours Monday–Thursday 5–8 PM, with general facility hours Monday–Friday 5 AM–9 PM, Saturday 8 AM–5 PM (summer hours 8 AM–1 PM), and Child Development Center hours Monday–Friday 5 AM–6 PM
• Price: After-Hours Access areas are available to members who activate the free benefit and purchase a special access card with a one-time activation fee of $10.
The Sidney-Shelby County YMCA states its mission as “To put Christian Principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.” The organization offers 24-Hour Access to certain areas for members during non-staffed hours, including the Wellness Center, men’s and women’s restrooms, racquetball court, and Schauer Gym. Complimentary Child Watch care is available for children ages 6 weeks to 6 years while parents work out, included with a Family Membership at no extra charge. Through its Community Partners Program, it provides full or partial assistance to approximately 2,000 individuals each year and is a United Way Organization. It has a partnership with Wilson Health for complimentary Athletic Trainer services and collaborates with the Shelby County Commissioners on a satellite Child Development Center at Fair Haven Shelby County Home.
The leadership team includes CEO David O'Leary, Operations Director Neil Murphy, Accountant Dawn Herrick, HR Generalist Stacy Dietz, Y Child Development Center Director Tori Faulder, Program Director Rose Schutte, Senior Program Director Suann Kleinhans, Membership Director Amy Zachrich, Marketing & Financial Development Director Pam Masson, Wellness Coordinator Sara Lingerfelt, and a Board of Directors with officers and members from various local organizations and businesses. The YMCA’s history includes receiving its national charter on April 5, 1968, opening its main facility on November 2, 1974, multiple expansions such as the Y Knot Center dedicated on April 30, 1991, adding 24-Hour Access Areas in December 2020, opening a satellite Child Development Center at Fair Haven in November 2022, and expanding the Child Development Center with an infant/toddler project that broke ground in April 2024 and held a ribbon cutting in January 2025.
