Over 165 years of serving communities are noted in the history of the Scioto Valley YMCA. The organization is led by Chief Executive Officer Steve Clever. High-quality child care for toddlers, preschool, pre-K, and school aged children is led by credentialed teachers and staff. The YMCA states that it is the leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community by empowering young people, improving the health and well-being of people of all ages, and inspiring action in and across communities.

The Scioto Valley YMCA works with a wide range of groups and organizations in the community to ensure needs are met, including supporting addiction recovery and creating deeper family engagement. It is described as a values-centered organization led by Christian principles and as a non-discriminating organization serving all members of the community regardless of age, race, color, religion, creed, citizenship status, sexual orientation, sex, gender identity, genetic information, national origin, disability, veteran status, or any other protected status under applicable law. The organization describes its environment as inclusive, where everyone has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.

One parent review notes long-term use of the YMCA and calls it one of the best things about Chillicothe. Another parent review describes using a family membership for group fitness classes, exercising, child watch, preschool, summer camp, day care, swimming lessons, athletics, and more, and describes the YMCA of Ross County as more than a gym and an all-in-one, family-friendly go-to for their household and others in the community.
