About the provider
OSSM was created by the Oklahoma state legislature in 1983. Its mission is to provide an advanced education in science and mathematics for Oklahoma residents. More than 60% of OSSM students participate in independent research, 60 hours of community service and 60 hours of school service are required, and research mentorships with scientists at OUHSC, OMRF, and elsewhere are available to OSSM students. The school reports that 100% of graduates attend college, it is ranked No. 1 Public High School in OK and No. 11 Public High School in the U.S., and more than 500 OSSM students are National Merit finalists.
Admission is a competitive process initiated by written application. Semifinalists are interviewed by a committee comprised of community leaders and faculty before final selection is determined. Oklahoma residents pay nothing for tuition, fees and room and board. Out-of-state domestic students pay $36,500 per year. International students pay $46,000 per year.
