PURE Academy offers dance classes in Acro, Ballet & Pointe, Hip Hop, Jazz, Lyrical/Contemporary, Tap, and preschool dance classes. The program also includes Bloom & Grow (Early Years) and competitive dance options. Classes run as part of a dance season that typically goes from the second week of September until year-end recitals in June.

PURE Academy was founded in 2007 and has been operating from 2007 to 2026. The program is led by Artistic Directors Melissa Colman and Corey Mariuz, Costume Director Candice Willmore, Directors Kent Willmore and Margaret Ross, and studio and program managers including Faith Hudvagner, Tawnie Clarke, Queianna Park, and Tiffany Trofin. Melissa’s post-secondary education is in Human Kinetics and Movement Science, and Corey holds a B.A. Honours in Criminology and Philosophy with a minor in Women’s Studies, as well as a Master’s degree in Sociology from the University of Windsor. PURE Academy is powered by a team of over 40 professionals, including directors, managers, faculty, choreographers, and administrative staff, and has over 25,000 square feet of studio space.

PURE Academy states that it is building confident kids through dance and that since 2008 it has focused on nurturing self-esteem and confidence by providing dance instruction and a sense of belonging. The mission statement says the program is committed to a safe, inclusive, and positive environment that builds community, encourages self-expression, and supports a sense of belonging and purpose. PURE Academy describes its approach as “more than movement.”

PURE Academy offers award winning competitive programming for dancers at different stages, from first-time competitors to those training at a professional level. The program has received parent feedback noting welcoming staff and instructors, clean and well-organized studios, and well thought out classes that meet the needs of students. Parents also report positive experiences with the competitive mini team, describe directors and teachers as accommodating, and mention that their children look forward to their dance time and enjoy the new Lakeshore building.

For attire and footwear, the program specifies ballet-based outfits and comfortable footwear such as ballet slippers or non-slip runners for Tiny Seeds. Little Sprouts Tap and Tumble and Little Sprouts Ballet and Tumble use ballet-based outfits, with tap shoes for Tap and Tumble and ballet slippers for Ballet and Tumble, and adaptable tights or bare legs recommended for tumbling. Dancing Daisies use ballet-based outfits or T-shirt and shorts above the knee, with ballet slippers and either tap or jazz shoes. Ballet classes use a bodysuit with pink tights and pink ballet slippers, or fitted T-shirt and shorts with black ballet shoes. Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, Lyrical/Contemporary, and Acro each have specified fitted or loose dance clothing, with black tap shoes or hard-toe tap shoes for Tap, tan or black jazz shoes for Jazz, clean white indoor sneakers for Hip Hop, bare feet for Lyrical/Contemporary, and bare feet with form-fitted clothing for Acro.
