About
Crossroads Carnegie Art Center Classes take place in the Crossroads Carnegie Art Center building and are part of a 501(c)3 non-profit founded in 1963. The program operates in a building that includes an elevator, accessible restrooms, and various seating options in studios and galleries.
• Schedule: Open Monday through Saturday, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, closed on Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's, with First Friday hours maintained even if a holiday falls on that day
• Price: Admission to Crossroads is free to all.
The mission of Crossroads Carnegie Art Center, Inc. is to create opportunities for the entire community to be engaged, inspired, and transformed by the arts through participation in classes, workshops, exhibits, mentorships, and partnerships. The organization is led by Executive Director Ginger Savage. Group tours for school groups and community groups are strongly encouraged, and artists can be arranged to be on site for demonstrations or talks if contacted in advance, with gratuities to artists appreciated.
The building includes accessible parking, an accessible door via 2nd Street, an elevator, accessible restrooms, and a front counter that allows for communication with staff and uses a point-of-sale system that does not require pin numbers or accessing a card reader. Seating options in studios include chairs with arms, and the gallery has benches with an arm. A manual wheelchair is available to borrow in the downstairs studio with no permission needed, and downstairs studio sound baffling panels were added to help buffer sound for those with sensory challenges. A sensory kit with headphones and fidget toys is available to be checked out at the front counter, and all speakers at events are required to use microphones.
Crossroads is part of the Baker County Culture and Heritage Passport. Crossroads is working with vendors to ensure the website is optimized for screen readers, to improve directional signage so guests can easily find the ADA door, to expand training for arts educators to provide more inclusive educational opportunities, and to increase staff and volunteer awareness and training to make the center welcoming to all. Crossroads acknowledges that the area experiences significant snowfall and icy weather and works to ensure safe access to the building while encouraging guests to use caution around slick sidewalks and snow.
