Mariposas Nature Preschool is led by Mercedes Rumack, Founder and Educator at Mariposas. Over the past four years, Mercedes has guided Mariposas Nature Preschool. The program is described as a small, limited-enrollment learning community with a small, consistent group and a consistent weekly rhythm. It is described as a whole-child, nature-connected, relationship-centered, bilingual program for ages 3–6, where children are gently introduced to Spanish through songs, storytelling, and everyday interactions. Families describe Mariposas as a place where childhood is honored, with a gentle, predictable rhythm and learning through meaningful experiences.

The mission of Mariposas states that it is a place where childhood is honored, and learning unfolds through connection, exploration, and real experience. The mission also states that children are seen as whole, capable individuals whose curiosity, emotions, and ways of being are valued and supported as they grow, and that through a calm and intentional rhythm, learning is not rushed but lived.

Parents in the community have described Mariposas Preschool as a wonderful addition to the community and as an education option for local families. In testimonials, families describe the curriculum as thoughtful, creative, and nature-based, with lots of time spent outside, a gentle daily rhythm of problem solving, art, music, and movement, and a focus on songs, nature-based themes, and activities. Parents report that their children look forward to lessons, feel happy at the program, and that Mariposas has cultivated a sense of community with like-minded parents.
