About
STEM Academy offers a range of camps and workshops that include Introduction to Engineering Camp, Engineering Camp, WeDo 1.0 Camp, WeDo 2.0 Camp, Wild About Wildlife Camp, Toxicology Camp, Microbiology Camp, and a DNA Biology and Bioinformatics summer camp for high school students at Oregon State University. The program also offers technology and making-focused options such as Making with Microcontrollers, Making Arcade Games, Art+Metal 3D Printing Camp, “Blender” Camp, A Summer Blender Camp: Modeling, Rendering, and Animation for High School Students, and a Virtual “Blender” Camp. Additional offerings include GenCyber Camp, the OSU Summer Transportation Institute, and AWSEM Club, along with a Color Innovation Workshop.

STEM Academy states that all of its camps are day camps and do not offer any overnight housing accommodations or out-of-camp supervision. Needs-based scholarships and/or fee waivers are available for camps. AWSEM (Advocates for Women in Science, Engineering, and Math) Clubs include an AWSEM Club open to all 5th–7th graders, and registration for the 2026 Winter AWSEM Club for 8th–10th graders will open on November 20th. Registration for 2026 Summer Camps will open on March 2nd at noon. STEM Academy does not offer any programs in the Bend area. Program activities, measures, and protocols are subject to change based on executive order, other legal requirements, health authority guidance, or local conditions, and health and safety protocols will be adjusted if the Oregon Health Authority or Oregon State University issues different guidelines.
The Director of STEM Academy at Oregon State University is Cathy Law, Ph.D. STEM Academy’s mission is to engage K–12 youth in programs designed to increase college attendance and participation in STEM fields, to broaden participation of underrepresented groups in STEM, to maintain year-round programs aimed at increasing college enrollment, retention, graduation rates, and life-long learning, and to emphasize STEM endeavors that promote social equity. The mission also includes establishing and maintaining STEM partnerships within the state and across the nation based on researched best practices, and providing various mentoring programs for youth in the early stages of their STEM exploration. STEM Academy is a self-funded program and relies on grants, as well as business or personal donations, to continue to offer programming and scholarship opportunities.
STEM Academy states that it seeks individuals who want to teach and mentor students within its programs, and that its classes and workshops program offers opportunities for people to develop a new class or help out with an existing class. The program also states that it establishes and maintains STEM partnerships within the state and across the nation to offer high quality STEM programs based on researched best practices.
