About

Steens Mountain High Altitude Running Camp includes running, hiking, exploring, distance training, distance racing, team building, the Steens Mountain Olympics, and a Basque style dinner. Campers take part in group and individual instruction in distance training and racing, with emphasis on performance improvement through self reliance, personal accountability, and teamwork strategies. The camp is designed to give campers a realistic wilderness running and camping experience at high altitudes, and campers are expected to adapt to the lack of urban conveniences such as cell phones, iPods, tablets, DVD players, and other technologies.

• Ages: 13–18 years old
• Schedule: 2026 sessions run July 12–18, 2026 (Session 1) and July 19–25, 2026 (Session 2)

Steens Mountain High Altitude Running Camp has been developing champions since 1975. The Bland Family plans, coordinates and updates the 2026 menu, and Steens campers are provided fast service, great food and plenty of it for carnivore, vegetarian or gluten free diets. Athletes and coaches are treated to a special Basque style dinner prepared by Claudio and Maria Iturriaga. Campers are advised to be prepared for drastic weather changes, as a 75° day can turn into a cold rainy day in just a matter of hours, and to be equipped with the items listed under “What to bring.”
