About

WildRoots Collective offers week-long day camps where children take part in adventure, play, and hands-on activities in nature. Camp days include options such as science projects, art, archery, gardening, wilderness survival, animal tracking, herbal crafting, and woodworking. Programs include Nature Preschool, Forest Explorers, Forest School, Farm School, and the Forest Keepers Guild, with a Counselor in Training Program for teens.

• Ages: 3–16 years old
• Schedule: Week-long day camps offered all summer long from June through August

Flexible and free check-in runs from 8:30–9:00 a.m., with flexible and free pick-up from 2:30–3:00 p.m., and a half-day camp option for Pre-K from 9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. Nature Camps use portable restrooms, and when far from these, nature-potties may be used off trails, away from play areas, and with privacy. All children must be bathroom-ready, meaning they recognize the need to go before going in their clothes, can communicate this need, independently use the toilet including wiping and dressing, and wash their hands independently, and no diapers or pull-ups are allowed at camp. For ages 3–5, camps provide a little-kid friendly pop-up portable restroom.

WildRoots Collective describes itself as a nonprofit organization with staff who are First Aid/CPR certified and trained in outdoor risk assessment, and small groups are led by experienced nature educators who are described as experts in their craft. Forest School uses 40 acres of native forest land as its classroom, and Farm School is a fully outdoor, mixed-age program inspired by traditional agrarian learning. Forest Keepers Guild uses a role-based, guild-style structure with paths such as Mage, Adventurer, or Creator and is guided by Guild Masters.

WildRoots Collective states that it has been serving rural Oregon since 2014. Its mission statement says that it creates inclusive, nature-based educational experiences that center equity, diversity, and inclusion while fostering a deep connection to the natural world, and that it builds resilient communities by providing hands-on learning opportunities, empowering underserved populations, and promoting environmental stewardship. The organization describes itself with the words Education, Environment, Community, and states a commitment to making summer camps accessible to families from all financial backgrounds and to fostering equity, inclusion, and community support.
