About

WildRoots Nature School offers hands-on discovery and play-based exploration that includes caring for farm animals, wandering through the forest, and watching seedlings sprout in the garden. Children use real tools during instructor-led and child-driven games, activities, and hands-on projects, including seasonal farm projects, animal care, gardening, planting and harvesting in the garden, and traditional food preservation. Participants also engage in herbalism, observing pollinators, studying soil health, weaving with natural fibers, threshing, dye-making, wilderness survival, animal tracking, herbal crafting, woodworking, and crafting magical tools.

• Ages: 3–16 years old

WildRoots Nature School offers programs at both Forest and Farm Campuses and uses 40 acres of native forest land as its classroom. The program features a fully outdoor, mixed-age Farm Days program inspired by traditional agrarian learning, with a multi-age community that includes peer mentorship, skill progression, and collaboration. WildRoots Nature School follows a nature-centered philosophy with emergent and child-centered learning, play, exploration, and discovery in the natural world, and is rooted in the Reggio Emilia philosophy of experiential and environmental education. The Forest Keepers Guild is set in the mythical world of Hollowcroft Nest, where students create characters and choose paths such as Mage, Adventurer, or Creator, guided by skilled Guild Masters and leveling up by mastering real outdoor skills.

Programs are led by experienced educators who share a deep love for nature, along with skilled and experienced Guild Masters. The mission of WildRoots Nature School is to create inclusive, nature-based educational experiences that center equity, diversity, and inclusion while fostering a deep connection to the natural world. The program states that it builds resilient communities by providing hands-on learning opportunities, empowering underserved populations, and promoting environmental stewardship. WildRoots Nature School includes a land acknowledgment of the ancestral territory of the Tualatin Kalapuya people.
