Gilchrist Farm, 30116 Bouquet Canyon Road, Gilchrist, OR 91390
About
Gilchrist Farm Summer Farm Camp includes daily horse activities where campers learn to ride horses, advance current riding skills, and practice horse care, grooming, and riding. Campers groom and tack up horses, ride in English and Western styles, try Driving and Mounted Archery, and take part in an end-of-the-week horse show with ribbons and prizes. Campers also join small animal adventures such as milking goats, gathering eggs, holding chicks, brushing pigs, petting bunnies, feeding ducks and a tortoise, taking a mini mule for a walk, and learning about gardening, composting, raising food, and caring for chicks. Additional activities include soap and candle making, leather working, rag doll and wood working projects, traditional games like milk jug bowling, horse shoes, corn hole, tug o war, gunny sack races, water balloon battles, water play, an obstacle course, a mud run, archery on the ground and from horseback, sand play, snow cones, and, in the Extended Day Program, board games, art projects, crafts, and extra time with the animals.

Gilchrist Farm Summer Farm Camp states that it is entirely outside and has shade and misters, and that the day is scheduled to limit heavy sun exposure, provide breaks, and include plenty of water. Campers are grouped by age in smaller groups or cohorts with individual counselors, and there is a Counselor in Training group for ages 12–16 that includes a leadership component, a more advanced riding program, and activities geared for older kids. Mounted Archery is described by the program as a camper favorite. The camp states that no electronics, phones, or valuables are allowed, and that dogs or pets are not allowed except ADA-approved service dogs or for special pre-arranged events.
The program specifies that campers should wear a hat for sun protection, closed-toe shoes or boots, and long pants, and may bring a change of clothes such as shorts for later in the day while still wearing closed-toe shoes. Families are told that water play clothes can be worn under riding clothes, and that campers should bring sunscreen in a labeled bag, a full refillable water bottle, lunch or money for a pizza order, and any preferred snacks, while fruit and popcorn will be served. The camp notes that all campers need closed-toe shoes, a sun hat, sunscreen, a refillable water bottle, and lunch or a pizza order, and that electronics, phones, and valuables should not be brought.
