The camps operate within the Hermiston School District, whose mission is “Serving the needs of all students through rigorous and engaging program choices, mutual respect , and high expectations.” The Hermiston School District is the largest district in eastern Oregon, with more than 5,300 students in kindergarten through 12th grade, and is described as a nationally recognized community that embraces its diversity. The district states that it provides equal access to all programs and services without discrimination based on sex, race, creed, religion, color, national origin, age, honorably discharged veteran or military status, sexual orientation, gender expression or identity, the presence of any sensory, mental, or physical disability, or the use of a trained dog guide or service animal by a person with a disability. The Hermiston School District serves about 28,000 residents, about half of whom are Hispanic, and community voters approved a $39 million building program in 2001 and a $69.9 million bond in 2008.
