About
Jacksonville Community Center Youth Programs include music and singing classes for kids and adults, as well as art classes and projects for both younger and older participants. The program also offers tai chi and yoga classes, along with wellness and healthy aging programs. Educational classes, music jams, and concerts are also part of the activities offered through the community center.
The Jacksonville Community Center’s mission is to create a healthy, informed, and interconnected community through enriching, inclusive and accessible programming and participation opportunities for all ages. Sarah Greco serves as the Child and Youth Coordinator and is an experienced educator and youth program leader with a background in Developmental Psychology and Early Childhood Education. The leadership team includes Sue Miler (President), Sandy Marshall (Board Member), David Doi (Secretary), Kristine Rose (Treasurer), Margaret Pashko (Vice President), Laura O'Bryon (Board Member), Julie Raefield (Executive Director), and Tori Wood (Volunteer & Facility Coordinator). Since 1998, the Jacksonville Community Center has operated in a small 842-square-foot cottage, which volunteers helped remodel through demolition, painting, landscaping, and creating walkways and pollinator gardens. Programs and events at the center are open to people of all ages and backgrounds, with a focus on education, wellness, arts enrichment, history, culture, community-building, and life-skills. The center has also hosted community members’ private events such as weddings, celebrations of life, baby and bridal showers, anniversary parties, birthday parties, quinceañera and graduation parties, holiday parties, retreats, meetings, conferences, and community meetings. Funders for the Jacksonville Community Center include multiple family foundations, tribal community funds, local organizations, and charitable trusts, and dozens of volunteers have donated thousands of hours of work on the community center.
