About
Brawley Farms Riding Lessons offers English horseback riding lessons that include hunter/jumper disciplines, dressage fundamentals, equitation, and proper horsemanship. Riders learn grooming, tacking, handling horses on the ground, and can progress to jumping courses at the 2'–3' level, as well as competing at local schooling shows and rated A-level competitions.
• Ages: 7–18 years old
• Schedule: Lessons range from 30 minutes to an hour and a half; private lessons run approximately 30–45 minutes, semi-private lessons last 45 minutes to 1 hour, and group lessons with three or more riders typically run 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Brawley Farms has proudly served the equestrian community for over 50 years, with a legacy in equestrian education and competitive success dedicated to the health, happiness, and success of horses. The staff is comprised of knowledgeable, highly trained individuals with years of experience in both horsemanship and instruction. The leadership team includes founder Judy Brawley, Tom Brawley, assistant trainer Milla Rindal, founder of Brawley Farms North Debbie Brawley, assistant trainer at Brawley Farms North Rachael Nicholas, owner/operator Bob Brawley, and co-owner/operator Morgan Brawley. The program uses a carefully selected group of seasoned lesson horses chosen for temperament, reliability, and the ability to provide a safe yet challenging learning experience, and all beginners start with one-on-one instruction that includes around 30 minutes of hands-on grooming and tacking before and after their ride. Riders are required to take two lessons per week in order to progress at a safe and steady pace, and lesson horses can take riders from their first lesson through jumping 2'–3" courses, with guidance available in finding a suitable horse to lease or purchase once they progress beyond lesson horses. Brawley Farms has a history of taking several students to prestigious equitation finals in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New York, and emphasizes developing knowledge of equine behavior, feeding, basic veterinary care, and day-to-day responsibilities. The program is part of a family-owned legacy founded by Judy Brawley and nurtured by generations of the Brawley family, with multiple family-run locations (South, North, and Texas) that collaborate, including presenting riders on the A-circuit, and serves riders and horse owners from Jefferson, Salem, Albany, the broader Willamette Valley, the Portland area, and across the nation. At Brawley Farms, the stated mission is to unite decades of tradition and expertise with a supportive, professional environment for riders of all ages and skill levels, with a belief in developing true horsemen and horsewomen, not just riders.
