About
JDCC Parks and Recreation District Youth Programs offers year-round activities that include flag football, volleyball, t-ball, basketball, corn hole and cornhole, as well as Youth Basketball. The program also offers special events such as a Father Daughter Dance and a Mother Son Night. In addition, the district runs a free summer lunch program for children up to 18 years old.
• Schedule: General Board Meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month, beginning at 4:30 p.m.

The John Day / Canyon City Parks and Recreation District became a special district in 1989, separate from the cities of John Day and Canyon City. It was established by voters with the purpose of managing Gleason Pool and providing park services and recreation opportunities to residents within the District boundary, and it serves the greater John Day and Canyon City community. The District’s mission is to enhance the quality of life for residents by providing safe and well-maintained parks and offering recreational opportunities for people of all ages.
The leadership team includes Co Executive Director of maintenance facilities and sports programming Colby Farrell, Co Executive Director of Office, Administration and special programming Ana DeVincentis, Head of Maintenance Preston Reitz, and Maintenance Staff member Jason Ford. The Board is led by Board Chair and Budget Officer Jesse Schaefer, with Vice Chair Renee Hollowell and Board members Jessi Brunson and Gary Wilson. General Board Meetings are open to the public, and public comments are limited to 10 minutes per person, with guests called in the order they sign in.
Youth Programs scholarships are available on request. The District offers a free summer lunch program for children up to 18 years old. Ana DeVincentis has secured multiple grants from organizations such as the Portland Trailblazers, Ford Family Foundation, and Roundhouse Foundation, and she was recognized with the Oregon Youth Leadership Award. She was also featured by Travel Oregon, which filmed a video highlighting JDCC Parks and Recreation District at the 2025 Oregon Governor’s Conference on Tourism.
